Can we all just take a moment to think about just how difficult this must be for Kaldur?

This. Man, I mean, I’m just going skim the surface but - for the sake of the mission, he has ‘betrayed’ his King. He may not have when all is said and done, but his King believes his loyalty tainted forever. Most of his teammates, who looked up to him as a leader, now think him a traitor as well. And even though at the end of this mission he may be able to go ‘look, it was all a ruse, I’m still the same guy you knew!’ - he’s risking there being complicated feelings forever. Some of them may not get over that. Some may -always- be suspicious (conspiracy theories, anyone? I’m sure some might say he really did turn evil, but now he’s ‘turned’ again and they’re trying to cover it up by saying it was a co-ops mission). He’s also, for however long this is taking, being estranged from his friends and family. He has no one to support him while he undergoes this incredibly difficult operation. And to boot, he’s getting to know his real father, which must be disappointing and conflicting, and at the same time deceiving him.

And post-Tula - regardless of any romantic feelings he may or may not have for her still, that was his friend. So he’s mourning her death by himself, surrounded (most likely) by people who had a hand in her death.

To be honest, I’m surprised Kal can pull this off. I mean, he’s a magnificent soldier, but Kaldur, ever-honorable and honest to a fault Kaldur - these deceptions must grate against his very being. And Kal, who was always so concerned with being on good terms with everyone - to purposely have everyone hate him or think he’s turned evil? That must be painful.

But he’s just that badass of a soldier and that selfless.
